Collaboration is key
AJ Engineering is currently working closely with fellow RSK business WGM Engineering on the Knapp Mill Water Treatment Works (WTW) upgrade project for client MWH Treatment, also an RSK company. This forms part of a wider £85 million investment programme by Bournemouth Water.
AJ Engineering’s scope within the project involves delivering the structural steelwork and cladding package for the new Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) structure. This is an impressive and somewhat different build compared to a typical steel portal frame building. The structure is being constructed partially on top of an existing concrete GAC tank, which already stands at approximately six metres in height. A further three metres of steel structure will be erected above this, forming the main building.
Overall, the structure will span approximately 22 metres in width and around 65 metres in length.
We are delivering our works in close coordination with WGM Engineering, who are responsible for the internal access steelwork and pipework installations. On projects of this nature, it is common for the client, MWH Treatment (MWHT), to appoint multiple contractors to deliver these separate packages. However, by collaborating closely with other RSK businesses, AJ Engineering and WGM are able to offer MWHT a comprehensive turnkey solution, covering structural steelwork, cladding, access systems, mechanical pipework, and more.
Through close collaboration and careful planning, both teams have successfully sequenced their installation activities to align, resulting in a clear programme advantage for the overall project.
Progress on the concrete structure is advancing well on site, and AJ Engineering is now preparing for the steelwork erection phase, which is scheduled to commence in July.
