Learning and Earning

Two new apprentices have spoken about how they are enjoying combining workplace learning, college and earning with AJE.

Guy Storey and Innes Mackintosh, both 17, have joined the company as apprentice fabricator welders.

Guy has predominantly been working out of the Greshop workshop with Innes located at Waterford.

Guy already had some experience in the industry after leaving school after completing S4 and said: “I heard about the opportunity here and I knew that it was a company where you can really make a career. There are good people working here and I feel I am getting the chance to work on real projects. I have found I have been allowed to work independently and on some quite tricky stuff.”

Innes who joined the company after S5 added: “I went along to a Careers Day at Forres Academy and met Fiona (office manager) who talked me through the options. My brother is a fabricator welder, so I thought I would like it. I love the course and the challenge of it. I really like maths and I like being given drawings and having to figure out what we need to do, it’s really interesting.”
