Canadian bridge works underway

Work is underway at the Forres depot to manufacture a stay cable mounted access system for a replacement bridge in Canada.

The AJE team have secured work on the Pattullo Bridge Replacement in Vancouver British Columbia.

The stay cable mounted access system will allow for the future maintenance and inspection of the cable system.

No teams will travel to Canada, but this means a rigorous trial build will take place at Greshop to make sure everything is in order before it is shipped out at the start of August.

Leading on the project is Craig Johnston, Fabrication manager.

He said: “We have started fabrication at Greshop and we will also need to harness the skills of the CNC workshop. It’s going well and it is expected that items will be with Highland Galvanisers in Elgin and eBLAST in Kintore by the second week in June. Once that is done, our clients will come for the first Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), before representatives from Canada then visit to cast their eyes over the system. It’s really important to carry out these ‘trial runs’ when the materials will be getting shipped over and installed by another team.”

Craig added: “Once we are happy, everything will be disassembled and packaged, ready for shipping at the start of August. We are really excited to be carrying out this scope and it is the first time that AJE has been involved in a project in Canada. Who knows, maybe this will be the first of many.”

The Pattullo Bridge is a key connection between the communities of Surrey and New Westminster. The new bridge will be a four-lane toll-free bridge which is expected to open later this year. Once the new bridge is open, the existing bridge will be removed.
