Steep roof pitch provides challenge
Two buildings are being refurbished to extend their lifespan with AJE being engaged to replace roof and wall cladding.
The project is for Caledonia Water Alliance on behalf of Scottish Water at their wastewater pumping station at Saltcoats in Ayrshire.
The location adjacent to the Firth of Clyde and the Ayrshire Coast Railway directly has itself proved a challenge for the teams who have also had to deal with steep roof pitches as Chris Roberts, project manager explained: “We engaged to design and install the new cladding envelope and the project is progressing well.
“
It is a very harsh location being completely exposed to the elements as the site is so close to the coastline. Not only have the team had to deal with that but the roofs are very steep at 45 degrees which is something you rarely come across anymore. The roof cladding replacement has been a massive challenge.
However, the 2 main roofs are now complete which has been huge milestone. It was late summer when we started on site and over the last few months the weather has been a difficult factor to contend with.
Chris who is based in our Carlisle office added: “The wall cladding on the screening building in near to completion and the scaffolding is currently being dismantled on the foul pumping building which will enable the wall cladding works to commence. During the works we have had a team of eight from Carlisle and Forres.”
In addition to the cladding scope, AJE have also replaced the roof purlins system, side rails and designed and installed new external canopies.
It is envisaged that the project will be complete in the early part of 2026.
